Kazan

The republic of Tatarstan is located in the central part of Russia. The republic is ranked 8th in Russia in terms of the population size which is almost 3 million 800 thousand people. Tatarstan is one of the most multinational territories of the Russian Federation – people of nearly 100 nationalities live he. The capital of Tatarstan – Kazan is a dynamic, rapidly developing industrial, scientific, and trading center. The city lies at the junction of European and Asian parts of Russia, and due to its favorable location it has become a trade hub between East and West.Kazan is one of the oldest Russian cities. It is a big center of railroad, water and air transportation. The area of Kazan is 425 square km. Its population is 1.2 million people, 40% of them are younger than 30.

Kazan is one of the biggest educational centers of Russia. Almost 150 thousands students from Russia and all over the world study in 37 high education institutions located in the city. Kazan State University is one of the oldest universities in Russia, established at 1804.

Kazan is a large industrial center. Petrochemical, aircraft, and helicopter industries are represented here.In the Forbes “best cities of Russia for business” rating released last year, Kazan has received the second place. The rating is based on 22 indexes of measuring the social and economic development of the largest Russian cities. Kazan received leading grades in such categories as business climate and comfort. In 2007 the Government of the Russian Federation considered Kazan to be the best municipality in Russia. Kazan was branded as “Russia’s third capital” after Moscow and Saint Petersburg. 

According to the popular vote made by Russian mass media with the support of the Ministry of sports, tourism and youth policy of the Russian Federation Kazan was called sports capital of Russia. Kazan and Tatarstan are a home of the world famous sports teams: two times champion of Russia “Rubin” premier league football club;champion of Russia, Gagarin Cup winner, European Champions and Continental Cup winner “Ak bars” super league ice-hockey club;Dakar rally ninefold winner Kamaz Master team;Champion of Russia, Cup of Russia and Champions League winner “Zenit-Kazan” super league volleyball club;Russian Cup winner “Unics” super league basketball club;Russian Cup winner “Sintez” super league water polo club; Bronze medal winner of the championship of Russia “Dinamo-Kazan” super league bandy club .Sportsmen from the Republic of Tatarstan successfully participated in Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing. 12 sportsmen from Tatarstan won 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.Tatarstan are performed by 5 tatar sportsmen at Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver.
